MPC-Polymer for Eye Drop Application

MPC (2-Methacryloyloxyethyl Phosphoryl Choline) consists of phosphoryl choline groups and methacrylic groups. Phosphoryl choline group is highly hydrophilic and surpresses the adherence of proteins and cells. Methacrylic group makes the polymer flexible in variation.

Applications

MPC-Polymer is already an additive in eye drop solutions to improve discomfort by blurred vision when excess of eye mucus is discharged.

Eye Drops

Features

  • Dry eye score improvement
  • Protective effect of cell damage by preservative
  • Prevents tear film break-up
  • Stabilization of tear film
  • Moisturizing
  • Suitable for hard and soft contact lenses

Additional Information

MPC-Polymer prevents efficiently cell damage by common preservatives.

SIRC cells (10^4 cells/well) was incubated for 24 h. A solution with increasing BAC or PHMB concentration and MPC-Polymer (0, 2, 10 %) was added. The test was incubated for 5 min. The nutrient medium was collected and the absorbance of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) was measured. The higher the concentration of LDH, the higher amount of damaged cells.

MPC-Polymer improves significantly the dry eye score

A dry eye model has been prepared (n=3). Forcibly open eyes for 3 hours. Each test solution has been instilled into the eyes every 30 min (in total 6x). After 3 hours the cornea has been dyed with methylene blue and the status of the dyed eye has been analyzed (0 = not dyed with dye; 2 = 1/4 to 1/2 are dyed).
